IMNZ : The Journey To New Zealand

March 18th, 2011 § Leave a Comment

It’s been a year-long journey.   My friends and I trained hard for the big race.

Being “kiasu” Singaporeans who wanted a place near the race site, we booked our accommodation at Acapulco Motor Inn more than a year ago.  Yep, that’s right – we planned for the race IMNZ more than a year ago.  Before we knew it, we were at the airport, getting ready to leave for the race.  How time flies!

Arriving in Auckland after a 10 hour flight, we collected our rented vehicles from Jucy and stayed at Jucy Hotel for one night before driving to Lake Taupo the next day.

We had our first dinner in Auckland at Angus Steak House.  If you’re a vegetarian, I strongly recommend that you turn away because the sight of steaks and chops will churn your stomach.  But if you’re a die hard meat lover, and devour your steaks and chops like no tomorrow, take a look at the spread we had.  It was absolutely delicious and we devoured every morsel.

It was hard sleeping on the first night because of jetlag since New Zealand is 5 hours ahead of Singapore.  Sleeping at 10pm in New Zealand felt as if I was sleeping at 5pm in Singapore.  Needless to say, I all had difficulty sleeping and played games on my iPod Touch all night long.

We drove to Lake Taupo the next morning.  I was completely mesmerized by the scenery and landscape.  Its a beautiful country, and the Kiwis were warm and friendly.
