Raising funds – Check!

Finally, I plucked up enough courage to email my faculty about raising funds for the needy students at my institution.  I am very fortunate to have blessings and support from my bosses after my initial email informing them about my intentions.

Here’s my email:

Hi everyone!!

Did you know that TP’s needy students benefit greatly from the CCN fund which we raise every year?

Different people contribute in different ways – some through great efforts at baking and selling, some give time, some give money.  Each person’s part is equally important as they come together to make up a greater whole of “doing good”.

This year, I decided that there was something that I can do to help.  I’ve decided to take something I like to do, and raise some money for CCN, a fund which assists the financially needy students at ABCDEF.  I’d like to invite you to join me in helping the less fortunate.  Join me as well in doing this as a gesture of gratitude for all the kindness we have received from both colleagues and students at ABCDEF.

The Ironman triathlon is the chosen challenge for my contributions.  The reason?  This will be the longest triathlon distance I’ll be attempting, and the race conditions and terrain are challenging in many aspects.  I’ve signed up for Ironman New Zealand in Lake Taupo, and it’ll be on 5 March 2011.

This is a race that involves participants to swim (3.8km), bike (180km) and run (42.2km) within a cut-off time of 17 hours.  Here’s a video which tells you more about the race.    Donors can track me “live” on race day at www.ironman.com, so you’ll know I’m working very hard for your donations!

Here’s how you could donate:

• Pledge a fixed amount
• Donate $xx per km of the race – e.g. $1/km to $10/km (or any amount) for the distance(s) that I will be covering (3.8km swim, 180km cycle, 42.2km run)
• Various departments/sections could get together to donate a fixed sum

(Please, no betting on how fast I can go!)

Of course, any amount is welcome, as all proceeds will go towards the CCN fund.
